RICHMOND, Va. – Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries says a growing bear population makes the spring and summer months ripe for bear sightings.
Officials say they are already getting numerous calls about sightings across Virginia.
The highest concentrations of sightings usually occur in the Blue Ridge and Alleghany Mountains and around the Great Dismal Swamp.
After bears come out of hibernation they go on a search for food, and the smell of food around homes often attracts them to residential areas. The most common things that attract bears are bird feeders, garbage, and pet food.

Now I have always enjoyed seeing wildlife, but, I’m not sure I want to wander up on a sleepy, grumpy bear.
