There is still time to enjoy hiking in the Smokies… The Great Smokey Mountains Association had this posted on their site earlier this summer. Follow the link and check out the videos…They are really well done and informative.
Reward Yourself – Hike the Smokies Challenge
Do you need a little motivation to get out and enjoy the great outdoors?
Join Great Smoky Mountains National Parks’ Reward Yourself – Hike the SmokiesChallenge in 2010. Mileage record books will be distributed at Sugarlands, Cades Cove, and Oconaluftee visitor centers for $1.00 per booklet.
The challenge is to record your mileage, even if it is the same trail day after day. When you have “hiked” 100-miles, 250-miles, and 500-miles, bring your mileage record to one of the three visitor centers to receive your mileage pin and be recorded in the “Hike the Smokies” 2010 web records.
This project was made possible in part by a grant from the National Park Foundation through the generous support of The Coca-Cola Foundation, a Proud Partner of America’s National Parks in cooperation with Great Smoky Mountains Association and Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
Day hiking in the Smokies is a good way to get the exercise you need while also discovering the beauty of this area, with over 800 miles of scenic trails to choose from, the possibilities for day hikes are endless.
