It is January 26th. The holidays are in the rearview mirror, the sky is a steel grey, and the mountains are sleeping under a frost. It feels like winter has settled in for the long haul. But close your eyes for a moment and look forward. Can you see it?
The “Appalachian Mountain Dreams” are already waking up.

The antidote to this deep chill arrives April 16–18, 2026, with Hillbilly Days. Just when you think you can’t take another quiet, cold weekend, downtown Pikeville will erupt in color, laughter, and the roar of “Country Limousines.”
By May, the grey skeletons of the trees will be gone, replaced by the white explosion of Dogwoods and the purple haze of Redbuds at the Apple Blossom Festival in Elkhorn City. The silence of the frozen river will be broken by the living history of Bushwhacking on the Russell Fork, and the empty streets will fill with the rumble of classic American steel during Main Street Live.
Winter is here today, but the warmth is coming. Hang on—the mountains are about to bloom.
