From the “Doonesbouroboros” buttons designed by Garry Trudeau—featuring a self-referential Zonker in an infinite loop—to the costumed characters roaming Pontiac Bay, the 2026 season promises a hyper-vibrant escape. Sidebar: The Palace of Frozen Dreams

At the heart of it all sits the Ice Palace, a temporary fortress rising from the shores of Lake Flower. Since 1898, the building process has remained a masterclass in volunteer grit:

  • The Harvest: Over 3,000 blocks of ice, each weighing roughly 400 lbs, are harvested from the frozen waters of Pontiac Bay.
