New Year, New Vision: The Evolution of the Blue Ridge Dreamer

It has been a quiet few years here on the Blue Ridge Dreamer, but as many of you know, silence in the mountains usually precedes a change in the weather. For me, that change has arrived.

I am now into my seventh decade on this “blue marble,” and while my physical view remains the flat, expansive horizon of Alvin, Texas, my digital view has shifted significantly. I am officially stepping into a new role: Coordinator of Synchronicity for Mountain Dreams Press.

From “Domain Collector” to “Legacy Publisher”

When I first started this site, I described myself as someone who was “elevationally challenged”—a Texan with a mountain-sized hole in his heart. I spent years picking up domains like BlueRidgeDreamer.com and MountainDreams.photography as a way to stake a claim in a landscape I loved but couldn’t yet inhabit.

Today, that hobby has matured. Through the founding of Mountain Dreams Press, I have turned my focus toward The Appalachian Odyssey. I am no longer just dreaming of the mountains; I am mapping the footprints of those who came before us—specifically the Linville and Vanderpool migrations—using tools my younger self could only find in the pages of a Robert Heinlein novel.

Our New “Digital Staff”

You will notice a few changes around here, including our new Colophon Badge—a quill pen that is half-vintage, half-circuitry. This represents my commitment to Synchronicity: the art of bridging the 18th-century past with 21st-century innovation.

I am now collaborating with “Digital Research Associates” (AI models like Gemini and Nano Banana) to help me reconstruct the atmospheres of the 1700s. These tools allow me to generate the “missing photos” of our ancestors’ journeys and synthesize massive amounts of genealogical data, ensuring that the stories we tell are as accurate as they are evocative.

What to Expect in 2026

The Blue Ridge Dreamer will now serve as the primary archive for these explorations. You can expect:

  • The Appalachian Odyssey Series: Detailed, atmospheric accounts of our family migrations.
  • Heritage & Innovation: Insights into how I use modern tech to uncover ancient roots.
  • Just Words… Nicely Strung: My usual musings on the “dichotomies” of life, politics, and the view from my office window.

The mountains may be far away, but the dream has never been more real.
